What to Know

Critics Consensus

Formulaic to a fault, The Brave fails to bring anything new to the genre -- though high production values and a capable cast may be diverting enough for some.

The Brave: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (1) David Wiegand San Francisco Chronicle The series follows the template for action shows but makes the most of it through crisp pacing and realistic action sequences. Rated: 2.5/4 May 29, 2018 Full Review The Brave: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Scott Von Doviak AV Club Its thrills are generic, but at least it stays focused on the mission. Rated: C May 29, 2018 Full Review The Brave: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Allison Keene Collider NBC isn't breaking any new ground here, but maybe it doesn't need to. More focused on operations with a clear procedural setup, The Brave offers up tense tactical missions, but hasn't revealed what its narrative focus will look like. May 29, 2018 Full Review The Brave: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Scott D. Pierce Salt Lake Tribune Anne Heche is miscast as the DIA deputy director (the boss), and the members of the team seem, well, interchangeable might be the nicest way to put it. Oct 21, 2017 Full Review The Brave: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Lisa Babick TV Fanatic There are so many other procedurals out there, why not have one about the military? We have the greatest military in the world, and we should celebrate them every chance we get. Rated: 4/5 Sep 26, 2017 Full Review The Brave: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Melissa Camacho Common Sense Media ... the stories are well told, and the cast, which is both diverse and well-rounded, makes them feel more believable. Linda A Great series, hope for season 2 Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review Audience Member Acting is subpar, especially the leader Anne Heche who delivers every line like she is still in a soap opera except this one has guns. Try Seal Team or The Unit if you want to see a much better show of this type. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Not sure why this was cancelled...loved it. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Excellent show! Interesting diverse characters. Interesting plots - not just goid guy bad guy. SO much better than SWAT. Name sucks. Should have been given another season at the very least. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The opening was good with with a powerful ending .leaving me to want more Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This show and "Seal Team" came out at the same time, and I knew one of them was doomed to fail. I honestly thought The Brave would survive! It was better! The characters were likable, and the stories were detailed and well-told. I thought Anne Heche was at the top of her game, Mike Vogel was phenomenal, and Natacha Karam suddenly became my favorite actress. Why they cancelled this show, I'll never know. It was better than half the crap "critics" tout as "Extraordinary! Emotional! Outstanding!". I hope another network picks this up. FOX? Are you listening?
